“Fantastic - Staff extremely helpful”, A. Laws, Belmont
“Thank you so much for your kindness”, A. Watson, Gretna.
Our Museum is run entirely by volunteers, mainly in their third age.
Friends of the Museum constitute our membership and at an AGM each year 16 Trustees are elected to manage the
affairs. The Trustees meet every month to make decisions. Keeping the Museum open for the advertised hours is a major task and we have about 25 volunteer stewards who take turns to welcome visitors.
Though voluntary the Museum seeks to achieve the highest standards of care for its collection and we have Registered
Status with the MLA. The MLA (Museums, Libraries and Archives Council) sets the standard for all museums in the country. The Museum also merits the award of VisitBritain’s accreditation of ‘Quality
Assured Visitor Attraction’.
The Museum is a registered charity and an independent organisation without subsidy from any local authority or
business.
We hope that you enjoy your visit and will tell your friends.
