High House Chapel at Ireshopeburn was built as “a preaching house for Divine worship in 1760”. It is now the oldest purpose built Methodist Chapel in the world to have held continuous weekly services since its foundation. Wesley himself preached here on many occasions.

Services are held every Sunday at 10.45am, and the local congregation welcomes visitors or church parties who wish to bring their own minister for a special service or pilgrimage.

The Church at Ardrossan visited in May 2008 as part of their annual pilgrimage.

This beautiful working chapel is not a museum item but it is open to visitors during Museum hours and guided talks can be arranged by appointment.

A dedicated Wesley Room in the Museum tells the fascinating story of the early Methodists who built their chapels, the pioneer preachers who inspired them and John Wesley, the founding father.
