We provide a sense of place for those who live and visit Weardale by telling the stories of its history and heritage. Attached is High House Chapel, the oldest Methodist Chapel in continuous use. We also specialise in providing family history research for people who have ancestors from Weardale.
We are open from 1.30 - 4.30pm
Easter and Bank Holidays
May, June, Sept & Oct - Wed to Sunday
July and August - every afternoon.
We are a small independent folk museum run entirely by volunteers to the high standards set by the Arts Council for England.

High House Chapel needs repairs and renovations which are beyond the scope of the worshipping fellowship and therefore worship will cease in September 2019. The Chapel will go up for sale and The Weardale Museum which occupies the adjoining manse will be offered the first chance to purchase the building.
High House is an historic Methodist Chapel, the oldest purpose built Methodist Chapel in the world to have been in continuous use since its foundation in 1760.
