We provide a sense of place for those who live and visit Weardale by telling the stories of its history and heritage. Attached is High House Chapel, the oldest Methodist Chapel in continuous use. We also specialise in providing family history research for people who have ancestors from Weardale.
We are open from 1.30 - 4.30pm
Easter and Bank Holidays
May, June, Sept & Oct - Wed to Sunday
July and August - every afternoon.

The Museum will also open for County Durham school holidays between 4th April and 1st November.

The Methodist Fellowship at High House Chapel ceased worship in the chapel at the end of September 2019 and the purchase by The Weardale Museum was completed on 30th June 2020. We are presently seeking the funding to carry out repairs and renovations which will save this important building in our community.
High House is an historic Methodist Chapel, built in n1760 it is one of the very earliest chapels in the world.
