Our 'Weardale People' database will save you many hours of painstaking work when you come to look for original sources.

Information about the resources for which we hold data

The Family history database is a powerful resource containing information and relationships on over 60,000 people and 400 interconnected families.

You cannot access the database on the internet, but if you are not able to come to the museum yourself we are happy to conduct the search for you. [see Research from  Distance]

Data from all of our sources has been brought together by the construction of a major genealogical database using a commercial family tree program.

The gallery below illustrates the index for finding people, a family page, pictorial ancestry charts and descendancy trees etc, together with notes containing associated supporting data.

The basic information you need to use the database are the subject's surname and forenames and their approximate date of birth. If you know their surname and where they lived you might first have to look at our census information.
