Voluntary but not Amateur
The Weardale Museum is a small independent folk museum established by volunteers
in 1985 to preserve the heritage of Weardale.
Though entirely voluntary our museum operates to the highest standards.
It has achieved full accreditation from the MLA, a Carnegie Award for excellent interpretation
and has been highly commended by Renaissance North East and the Arts Council as an
outstanding volunteer run museum.

Visit Weardale an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Weardale is part of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a fantastic
place to visit. The Museum is a member of the Weardale Visitor Network, a grouping
of independent traders who work together to promote Weardale and we fully support
the work of the North Pennines AONB Partnership to care for this special landscape.
